Kilmurry Parish Hidden Gems Tour

Kilmurry Parish hidden gem tour hosted by Kilmurry Historical and Archaeological Association.   As part of celebrating Heritage week and the museum’s first anniversary opening the Kilmurry Parish hidden gems was a huge success visiting Warrenscourt,Warrensgrove,Lissarda house,Ryecourt and Belmount house.The two buses carried 80 people around.Thanks to the owners of the properties for allowing us visit.The tour  started in Kilmurry on 19th August at 11 am sharp.The two buses then proceeded past the grotto and Cnoc an Tobair. Along the way the history of various sites were explained.We were then welcomed by the Duggan family at Warrenscourt house and Aidan O’ Sullivan described the history of the Warren family.Then we proceeded to Warrensgrove where Sile Healy proceeded to give an in depth description of the house. The tour  then headed to Lissarda House where Brian O Mahony welcomed us.The tour was treated to view the main rooms of the house and also treated to teas and music in the garden.The tour then headed to Moviddy cemetery and Bellmount house. The tour headed to Ryecourt where Sile Healy gave a talk of the Rye family history.The tour then proceeded to St Helens Church of Ireland in Aherla. Sile Healy gave a talk here on the history of the church.The last stop was then back to the Museum where the tour was treated to Teas and sandwiches and people also viewed the museum downstairs. A very enjoyable day was had by one and all. Independence Museum Kilmurry  would again like to thank all the owners of the properties for letting us visit on what was a beautiful day weather wise. We look forward to hopefully hosting a similar tour next year.
