Kilmurry Celebrates 1916 Volunteer Mobilisation
As part of the national 1916 Easter Rising commemoration programme Kilmurry Historical & Archaeological Association, (KHAA), in conjunction with Cumann Seanchais na Banndan and Bandon Walking Club, carried out a re-enactment of the mobilisation of the Irish Volunteers from Cork city,  Bandon, Ballinadee, Ballinhassig, etc., in Kilmurry on April 23, Easter Sunday 1916. On April 23, over 350 people re-traced the footsteps of these Volunteers’ original march to Kilmurry and commemorated this historic event with the unveiling of a memorial a memorial plaque on the museum wall by KHAA Chairman Noel Howard. The Last Post was sounded and the national flag was then raised by F COY 12 BN., Reserve Defence Force colour party, under the command of Capt. Tom Heffernan.
