The exhibition on the local quarries that has been running for the last two weekends and is on for the the next two Sundays has so far been a resounding success. The exhibition was opened by Richard Wood and he gave a very insightful and interesting speech on the history of the Wood’s Quarry and the other quarries that dot the Lee Valley from Ballincollig to Coppeen. A large crowd was in attendance both days of the opening weekends. People were able to view pictures and stories on the Castlemore and Classis quarries. There are also articles and pictures of the O’Regan quarry and the Finbarr O’Neill quarry. The crowd also enjoyed a chat over a cup of tea and read the booklet that accompanies the exhibition. The booklet features interviews with the workers from the quarries and their memories of working there. It is a most enjoyable read and is a real collectors item. It is a limited edition and at 7 euros is well worth the money. As I have already said the exhibition is running for the next two Sundays so why not come along and take a trip down memory lane or meet up with an old workmate.
